Marietta Medical Center Receives LEED Silver From USGBC

Atlanta, GA,  Sept. 12, 2012 –Ackerman & Co., a full-service commercial real estate firm, has achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification for Existing Buildings from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for Marietta Medical Center (top left photo).

The 98,534-square-foot, five-story, class “A” property, located at 790 Church Street, is the first and only medical office building to receive LEED certification in Marietta.

The contemporary medical office building that features a dramatic two-story atrium lobby, concrete and reflective glass is no longer just a pretty shell; it has become an efficient property from which physician practices and national healthcare systems tenants can benefit.

“While our tenants have been extremely pleased with the property’s common area renovations, they were impressed with ownership’s commitment to sustainability and how that would translate to their business initiatives and their patients,” said Diane Leckemby, director of property management.

Marietta Medical Center scored high in ENERGY STAR rating and is also “Net-Zero by Offsets,” meaning that 100 percent of the energy consumed at Marietta Medical Center has been offset with wind power purchased off-site.

Ackerman & Co., in a joint venture with Marcus Partners, purchased Marietta Medical Center in February 2011 and subsequently invested $1.4 million to renovate the building and complete system upgrades required to meet stringent LEED certification requirements.
