CHICAGO, IL— No retail center is complete without holiday décor, but at select assets managed by ShopCore Properties, the holiday tree is more than just adornment or a meeting point for its guests — it’s a way for the community and the company to give back to the communities they serve.

At five select properties, ShopCore is hosting a “Holiday Tree Celebration,” purchasing trees and providing funding for local nonprofits to customize their tree with unique decorations.

The company partners property tenants with local organizations to decorate the trees in the common area or inside the tenant’s window display.

Shoppers, diners, and other guests then can vote for their favorite tree. Each center will have a winning nonprofit, which will receive a $1,000 monetary donation from the property. (Every runner-up will also receive a $500 contribution from its center.)

ShopCore launched the program in 2020, and so far, has worked with close to 70 nonprofits and donated more than $33,000 to charities in the community where the properties are located.

This year’s participating centers are One Colorado in Pasadena, California; Downtown Palm Beach Gardens in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; The Point in Atlanta; Park Village in Southlake, Texas; and The Shops at Skyview in Flushing, New York. Thirty nonprofits and tenants are participating this year.

“The holidays are a time of gathering and giving, and our holiday tree program has become a beloved tradition at our shopping centers,” said Maria Macali, vice president of marketing and communications at ShopCore Properties.

In fact, many of the nonprofits and the retailers continue a relationship that lasts long after the holidays are done, she added.

“We are thankful for Downtown Palm Beach Gardens’ partnership over the years,” said Jamie Kendall, CEO of Palm Beach County Food Bank.

“Their continued support is instrumental to our efforts in hunger relief for our neighbors in need throughout the county. The joy and holiday spirit this event brings is wonderful.”

ShopCore has a long history of serving its communities. It partners with CoreGiving, a 501c3 organization focused on fighting child hunger, and which has thus far provided over 15 million meals to those in need.

CoreGiving has raised over $2.7 million this year alone to donate to local food pantries and similar organizations.

“We strongly believe that our centers are the core of our communities. We aim to provide an unparalleled shopping and dining experience for our patrons, rooted in value and convenience.

"Beyond that, our centers are a place for community connection. We strive to enrich our local communities through activations like the Holiday Tree Celebration,” Macali said.

“It’s our honor to continue to help organizations and others in those communities, during the holidays and throughout the year.”
