Withee Malcolm Architects Takes Top Honors at the National Association of Home Builders Multifamily Pillars of the Industry and SAGE Awards

Los Angeles, CA — The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has once again recognized Withee Malcolm Architects for its work in multifamily housing, with the 2011 Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Award for Ascent at Warner Center (top left photo) in Woodland Hills, CA, for Best Mid-Rise Condominium Community.

The SAGE Award was given to Mirandela Senior Apartments (middle right photo) in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, as Project of the Year. Having received the Multifamily Pillars Award five times and the Sage Award three, Withee Malcolm continues to demonstrate its talent for creating innovative homes for younger first time buyers and affordable homes for retiring seniors.

The Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Awards program highlights creative development concepts, innovative financing strategies, great design, and superior management and marketing in the apartment and condo marketplace.

The well-respected awards program is juried by a group of knowledgeable peers with proven track records of success in the industry. At this year's Virtual Awards program held on October 6, 2011, the judges praised Ascent as a new multihousing model — the apartment style condo — citing its competitive appeal with contemporary architecture and strong residential sensibility.

The SAGE Award for Project of the Year recognizes innovative residential developments targeted to the 55+ market, which can serve as models for other housing developments.

Nominees were reviewed and scored by a panel of judges comprised of past SAGE winners, past presidents of the 55+ Housing Council of the Building Industry of Southern California, and others selected for their expertise in the field.

In recognizing Mirandela, the jury noted that the community had overcome numerous obstacles to opening its doors, including major site challenges and satisfying neighborhood concerns. The awards ceremony was held on November 6, 2011 in Costa Mesa, CA.

"It is most encouraging for us to be recognized by the leading professional associations for our work in these markets," said Dan Withee (lower left photo) founding partner of the architecture firm. "Working with top developers like KB Home and AMCAL, we have had the opportunity to evolve the multifamily model to meet the demands of new generations of residents.

“Whether it's GenXer's looking for their first home or Boomers becoming seniors, we know that individual needs and wants are changing and to be successful, housing options must keep pace."

Withee Malcolm Architects serves clients in the residential and commercial industrial markets throughout the West from their offices in Torrance, California.
