ATLANTA, GA -- Balfour Beatty Construction’s Georgia division is proud to announce that they will serve as construction manager for the renovation of Building D on the Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) campus in Marietta, Georgia.

The project, which broke ground recently, is slated to finish completion in time for the 2015 Fall semester.

Building D, referred to on campus as the Mathematics Building, is one of the original buildings on the SPSU campus, constructed in the early 1960s. This 27,000-square-foot facility will undergo renovations to 20 classrooms and 14 faculty offices.

The renovation will take place on an occupied campus, so Balfour Beatty is taking special care not to disrupt campus activities. Understanding that safety is a deeply personal issue, one that reaches beyond the jobsite to impact families and individuals, the company takes a “Zero Harm” approach to all of their projects.

The new classrooms will contain new, state-of-the art A/V technology. The project also includes upgrades of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to support current demands and requirements for space to support instruction.

Although this is the first construction project Balfour Beatty has completed for SPSU, the company has long been involved with the school’s students. Nine employees of the Atlanta office are SPSU graduates, in addition to two current interns.

“We are excited to continue our relationship with SPSU,” said Kip Stokes, business unit leader for Balfour Beatty. “This project will allow us to apply the latest innovations in construction and technology, and deliver the best possible product to the school and for the Cobb County community.”

Chad McLeod, Balfour Beatty’s director of business development and SPSU alumnus, also commented, “Giving back to and being involved with the educational institution that provided the knowledge and passion I have for construction is inspiring. It means a lot to be able to give back to SPSU by renovating this building."

Design services will be provided by Lord Aeck Sargent.
