Construct Two Group secures new school contract

ORLANDO, Fla.,— Construct Two Group has secured a $14.2 million construction management contract to build a new elementary school for Orange County Public Schools (OCPS).

The two-story, 100,000-square-foot educational facility will be built on an undeveloped 14-acre site on Curtis Street in Orlando, Fla. The project, on a fast track 11-month schedule, is due for completion in June 2010. African American owned, Construct Two Group has reached a company record on this project with 44 percent participation for Minority/Women Owned Business Enterprises.

The educational facility is composed of administration, classrooms, art and music rooms, commercial kitchen and multi-purpose/dining room. Designed by Schenkel Shultz Architects of Orlando, Fla., this is only the second school built with this new prototype.

The Central Florida-based engineering team for this project includes BBM Structural Engineers, Longwood, for structural; Matern Professional Engineering Inc., Orlando, for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection; WBQ Design & Engineering, Orlando, for civil.

Construct Two Group wins construction excellence award for FAMU – Developmental Research School

ORLANDO, FL— Construct Two Group, a construction management company, has won an Eagle award for best in category at the annual Excellence In Construction award program sponsored by the North Florida Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors.

Construct Two Group snagged top honors for its role building the Florida A & M University-Developmental Research School (FAMU-DRS). Awards were presented at a banquet held in the University Center Club in Tallahassee, Fla., on October 15, 2009.

On hand to accept the award were Construct Two Group’s Founder and Chairman Derrick Wallace (top right photo)  and President/CEO Keith Williams, (middle left photo)  who are both FAMU Alumni.

Construct Two Group completed its $24.3 million contract in just 19 months. Located on the campus of FAMU, the K - 12 school is composed of a six building complex that includes buildings for elementary, middle and high school, administration, cafeteria/auditorium and gymnasium. The 132,116-square-foot campus opened in January 2009.

“As FAMU alumni, Keith and I have felt a special pride in having the opportunity to build this school,” said Derrick Wallace, chairman, Construct Two Group. “This award is a tribute to the strength of the construction management team we have built.”

Rhodes + Brito Architects, Orlando, Fla., designed the facility. TLC Engineering for Architecture, Orlando Fla., provided the electrical and structural engineering. Mechanical and plumbing engineering was provided by J.J. Christie & Associates, Winter Park, Fla.

Construct Two Group wins second consecutive national safety award

ORLANDO, FL — Construct Two Group has won its second consecutive national safety award from Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC), the nation’s largest construction organization. The construction management company’s safety program received ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) gold level of achievement.

Construct Two Group completes Lakeland, FL community center renovation

ORLANDO, FL, June 16, 2009 — Construct Two Group recently completed its $1.8 million contract to renovate and build an addition to the Coleman-Bush Building, (top left photo) a community center located on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in Lakeland, Fla.

Under contract with the City of Lakeland, Fla., Construct Two Group provided general contracting for site preparation, the renovation of 20,328-square-feet of existing space and a 2,420-square-foot addition.

The facility now features larger meeting and community rooms, expanded restrooms and offices for the City’s Code Enforcement and Housing units.

The project was completed in seven months.

Charles R. Lewis III of Construct Two, Orlando, attains LEED AP accreditation

ORLANDO, FL— Charles R. Lewis III (top right photo) has earned his LEED AP designation as an Accredited Professional in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program from the United States Green Building Council.

Lewis, the director of operations for Orlando-based Construct Two Group, has 15 years of experience in the construction industry. He has a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering Technology from Eastern Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Technology from Florida A & M University.

Construct Two Group wins library construction contract

ORLANDO, FL — Construct Two Group has secured a $1.88 million contract from Panama City Beach City Council for construction management services for a new library in the North Florida community.

The scope of services under Construct Two Group’s contract includes site work, building construction and landscaping for a new 10,632-square-foot facility (top left photo) with 209 parking spaces.

According to President Keith Williams, (middle right photo) work will be performed by Construct Two Group’s Tallahassee office. Construction is scheduled for completion in February 2010.

Features of the new library include a children’s program room, young adult reading area, and a literacy/meeting room. The new building more than doubles the space of the old 4,500-square-foot library, which the City plans to convert into needed office space.

Collins & Associates Inc. Architecture & Planning is the Architect of Record for the new library that features a tapered column entry, three-quarter stone façade walls, clearstory windows for daylighting and a standing seam roof.

A state grant, projected library impact fees and private donations are funding the design and construction of the new library.

ORLANDO, FL — Construct Two Group has completed its $24 million construction management contract to build the new home for Florida A & M University’s Development Research School (FAMU-DRS), a K - 12 school located on the university’s campus in Tallahassee, Fla.

This month nearly 500 K - 12 students entered the FAMU-DRS campus for the first time. They were welcomed into a new 132,116-square-foot educational complex of six buildings: elementary, middle and high school classroom buildings, an administration building, a cafeteria/auditorium with full commercial kitchen, and a gymnasium.

A wireless network system, installed campuswide, also connects to the FAMU campus police.

And, the school now boasts a TV production studio.

Construct Two Group secures contract from City of Lakeland

Polk County transportation facility built by Construct Two Group wins trade award

ORLANDO, FL — Associated Builders & Contractors’ Central Florida chapter recognized the quality of construction demonstrated by Construct Two Group, an Orlando-based construction management company, for its work on the new Winter Haven Area Transit (W.H.A.T.) facility (top right photo) in Polk County, Fla.

Construct Two Group earned an Eagle award for best-in-category in the Industrial $1 million to $5 million group. Excellence In Construction competition winners were announced at the Association’s annual banquet held on October 24 at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate.

The $3.2 million W.H.A.T. project was completed earlier this year under Construct Two Group’s comprehensive construction management contract with Polk County and the City of Winter Haven.

Along with a 5,800-square-foot core building that houses ticket sales, administrative office, break room, and both public and staff restrooms, the transit facility is composed of twelve covered pavilions averaging 1,500-square-feet each, twelve bus bays and canopied walkways.

The two-acre site located within the urban core of the City of Winter Haven provided several challenges to the construction team such as limited laydown area for contractors to store materials and equipment.

Close coordination between the Construct Two project management team and its subcontractors insured that equipment and materials arrived as crews were ready to install.

Additionally, the 100,000-yard concrete pour needed to cover the site with an 8-inch foundation was scheduled to begin at 3:00 a.m. to avoid interference with morning traffic.

Construct Two Group to build Martin H. Levin Advocacy Center at University of Florida

ORLANDO, FL— Construct Two Group has secured a $4.7 million construction management contract with the University of Florida for the Martin H. Levin Advocacy Center at the Levin College of Law (middle left rendering) in Gainesville, Fla.

Phase 1 includes construction of the 10,000-square-foot first floor of a planned two-story building. A functional trial and appellate courtroom with gallery, judge’s bench, jury box, attorney’s tables, judge’s chamber, jury deliberation room and support spaces are included in Phase 1.

The building is seeking Silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from U.S. Green Building Council. Construction completion is scheduled for May 2009.

FleishmanGarcia Architecture of Tampa, Fla., is the architect. Facility engineering is being provided by Volkert & Associates of Gainesville, Fla.

Florida subcontractors on the Construct Two Group team are CWS Source Inc., Jacksonville, American Electrical Services Inc., Tampa, and Cladding Systems Inc., Tampa.
